Partnering with the Department of Cultural Heritage of Senegal’s Ministry of Culture and Hoffmann Art Management, This is your Heart engaged closely with artists and stakeholders from the cultural sector in Senegal to implement a one-week training in November 2024 on the theme of conservation and preservation of artistic and cultural heritage. 

The 15th edition of the historic Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art was the ideal platform to gather museum conservators, artists, Fine Art teachers and practitioners from Senegal and other countries in Africa to revisit artistic techniques through the lens of conservation and discuss the role of artists, conservators and art restorers. The workshop, which combined both theoretical and practical considerations led to the conclusion that more work is needed to sensitize stakeholders from the art and cultural sector and develop new skills through a specific curriculum in art restoration. A fully-fledged project is now under discussion to further support the art ecosystem in Senegal in the area of conservation.
